More than 300 people have signed the WA journalists’ Free Speech online petition. They include WAN CEO Chris Wharton, Rural Press WA Publisher Joe Italiano, ABC News Director Kim Jordan, WAN Editor-In-Chief Bob Cronin, Sunday Times Editor Sam Weir, Nine News Director Adrian Beattie, Seven News Director Shaun Menagola, West Editor Brett McCarthy, Community Newspapers Editor-In-Chief Greg Thomson, Post Newspapers Editor-In-Chief Bret Christian, The Australian’s WA Editor Tony Barrass, WAtoday Editor Roy Fleming, and many more senior WA journalists. Have you signed yet? Did you know that five of your colleagues were threatened with three years’ jail and a $60,000 fine for doing their jobs properly? Did you know that 27 police raided a major Perth newspaper to search for a leaked Government document? Did you know that a WA editor went to jail for refusing to name a confidential source?
