Background

The Western Australian Journalists’ Association is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote press freedom, ethical journalism and professional excellence across all news media platforms, including print, radio, TV and online publications.

WAJA organises and funds the annual WA Media Ball and Awards, and partners other professional media organisations such as the Perth Press Club, Walkley Foundation, WA Freelance Committee and Women in Media.

The Association leads a state-wide campaign for journalists’ shield laws and ethical reporting standards, and works with the Walkley Foundation to help stimulate a national media industry debate about the Future of Journalism.

WAJA membership is automatic for all WA media workers who are members of the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance. The Association is registered under State corporate law and operates independently from the federal Alliance as a separate WA-based organisation.
